NCI renews the UNC Biostatistics training grant in genomics and cancer
The National Cancer Institute has renewed the Department of Biostatistics training grant in genomics and cancer, co-led by Drs. Joseph Ibrahim and Naim Rashid. The program supports five predoctoral trainees at a time and has helped more than 25 doctoral students complete their PhDs and move into careers in academia, biotechnology, the pharmaceutical industry, and biomedical research. Dr. Rashid was himself a trainee on the grant from 2006 to 2011. The next cycle will place greater emphasis on AI and machine learning, multimodal data integration, and single-cell and spatial technologies, with the same focus on rigor, reproducibility, and validation.
