Tyler Humpherys is pursuing his PhD in Biostatistics at UNC Chapel Hill, co-advised by Drs. Naim Rashid, Didong Li, and Michael Kosorok. He holds a BS in Applied and Computational Mathematics and recently interned at Insitro, where he built transformer-based approaches for biomedical images and clinical data.

Tyler’s dissertation focuses on offline reinforcement learning and large language models for precision health, with a special emphasis on pancreatic cancer. His current work fine-tunes LLMs for personalized recommendation and clinical trial matching, powering the lab’s pancreatic cancer trial-navigation engine in partnership with UNC Lineberger clinicians.
